Advantages

The LiftPlus System:

  • 7 year run time in producing SAGD well
  • Its positive displacement nature correlates to lowering SOR
  • Has very low Operational Cost
  • Reduces GHG Emission and Power Consumption
  • Is unaffected by temperature
  • Can be landed at 90 degrees
  • Has infinite turn down ratio
  • 1,000 m3/day – 0 capability
  • Unaffected by emulsion/gas interference
  • Can handle significant sand cut

Environmental

GHG Emission Effect

The GHG Emission Effect can be calculated by applying a C02 emission factor that converts reductions in kilowatt-hours into avoided units of carbon dioxide emissions.  The following example uses the industry accepted emission factor that the AVoided Emissions and geneRation Tool (AVERT) has derived.

  • Emission Factor
    1,640.7 lbs CO2/MWh × (4.536 × 10-4 metric tons/lb) × 0.001 MWh/kWh = 7.44 × 10-4 metric tons CO2/kWh
(AVERT, U.S. national weighted average CO2 marginal emission rate, year 2016 data)

GHG Emission Effect Base Case

One LiftPlus System replacing 1 ESP using 150 HP of continuous electricity

  • 150 HP = 111.9 kW…..x 8760 hr/year = 980,244 kWh
  • 980,244kWh x 7.44 x 10¯⁴ metric tons of CO₂/kWh = 729.3 metric tons CO₂
  • One car emits 6 tons CO₂/year…729.3tons/6 tons/car = 121 cars/year

1 LiftPlus System then to replace 1 ESP is the equivalent of removing 121 cars/year off the street.

  • Carbon Credit
    • 729.3 metric tons CO₂ = 729.3 Carbon credits
    • As per Government of Canada 2023 value of a carbon credit $65/metric tons CO₂ = 729.3 x $65 = $47,400
  • Power Savings
    • Oilfield Service power cost $0.30/kWh
    • 980,244 kWh x $0.30 kWh = $294,000
  • Total Savings from 1 Lift Plus System = $47,400 + $294,000 = $341,400/year

LiftPlus System v Gas Lift Comparison

A SAGD operator uses Gas Lift

  • Continuously injects 425 Sm3/h gas to produce 250 m³/d total fluid
  • Produced emulsion from Gas Lift includes oil, water and gas
    • To separate gas from emulsion, condition it for boiler consumption is very costly

The LiftPlus System

  • Uses approximately 65% Less gas than Gas Lift to produce 250 m3/d+ total fluid
  • Lift Plus System produced emulsion only contains oil and water
    • Represents considerable savings to the operator
  • Lift Plus System requires significantly less reservoir pressure to produce the same or more produced fluid than Gas Lift
    • This yields major savings due to less required steam
    • Which inevitably will reduce operators SOR
